The music industry
I. What is the music industry ?
- Definition: The music industry includes the production, distribution, and sale of music in different forms as: CD’s/ videoclips, the promotion of live musical shows, legal downloading. Since the arrival of illegal downloading in the 2000’s, the music industry tends to decline.
- Internet and the music industry: The internet plays a role since a lot of artists have been discovered on the Internet. , there are a lot of possibilities to get known: Facebook, MySpace, video clips on YouTube, (EX: Colbie Caillat, Yelle, Lily Allen… etc).
- Legal and illegal downloading: how do we feel about it? To buy CDs was too expensive for young people so industrial had to find a solution: legal downloading on the Internet. But, it was not as successful as it was expected. Consequently, illegal download is the easy way: we just have to click and songs come from nowhere directly in our computer. Because our society evolves very quickly, we do not want to pay for some music we’re going to listen for only 2 weeks. So we download music with no contribution for singers. Besides, among young people, illegal download is not considered as a crime and they do not feel guilty.
